Melody’s Spring Fever Playlist

As we move into the third week of spring, artists continue to bring fans feel-good songs perfect for the season. Springtime is great for new adventures, from newfound love, to day parties, to road trips, to celebrations, and music speaks to us through the journeys. If you need to spruce up your springtime playlist, here are some of my favorite tracks to get you through the season:

Sevyn ft. Chris Brown – Don’t Kill The Fun

Ready for the weekend turn-up? This is the perfect song when you’re getting ready for a fabulous girls night out on the town. The vocals between Sevyn and Chris always complement each other when they come together on a collaboration. This song teaches listeners to live more free-spirited, forget the worries, and simply just have fun. Things are going to get tough, but life is too short, so make the best out of every moment.

Ludacris ft. Miguel – Good Lovin

This rap/sung collaboration has been out for a few months now, but it’s been getting a lot more playing time on the radio lately. Typically the spring season is when more couples are in a lovey-dovey mood. However, Luda is a little sensitive on this track as he dwells on a past love. It’s painful to go through any heartbreak with someone you love, but good thing Miguel is here to lend us his sweet vocals to make everyone feel better.

Tori Kelly – Nobody Love

Perhaps you’ve found the love of your life, and you’re not going to let a good thing go. Tori has the perfect song for couples that are ready to be committed to each other. She expresses how some people are afraid of commitment and believe they can always find someone better, however she’s happy with the one she’s with and is here to stay.

Wale ft. Usher – The Matrimony

Do I hear wedding bells? This time of the year is also great for life-changing celebrations. Although this is not a typical wedding song, Wale wants to prove to his lady that he’s working to build a future with her. He doesn’t want his past relationships, career, and groupie love to hinder him from spending forever with his lady. I wouldn’t mind playing this song at my wedding reception (whenever that day may be).

Jidenna ft. Roman GianArthur– Classic Man

One of the newest artists signed to Janelle Monae’s Wondaland Records is Jidenna. His debut song has an infectious sound that is perfect to start your day. Jidenna may have released the male anthem of 2015 as he expresses the swag, poise, and strength of the “Classic Man.” This is a song that every DJ will play at a party since everyone should have the mentality of walking into a room and owning it.

Snoop Dogg ft. Charlie Wilson – Peaches and Cream

Ever feel like hearing music before your time? Snoop is everyone’s favorite old school rapping uncle (well at least he is to me). If you’re a fan of old school music, it’s a great song to boogie to that even your parents and grandparents would fancy. Snoop has worked with Uncle Charlie many times in the past and this song screams The Gap Band’s timeless sound. This is a song that will be played at all your family gatherings and cookouts.

Tuxedo – Do It

The dynamic duo of producer Jake One and singer Mayer Hawthorne bring a funky tune for the eclectic listeners. Mayer is no stranger to channeling his inner Motown vibe, so get ready to form a Soul Train line with your friends. The song repeats the same hook throughout its entirety, but the beat is so catchy that it becomes an afterthought.

Kat Deluna ft. Trey Songz – Bum Bum

It’s been quite some time since we’ve heard from singer Kat Deluna, but she’s back with a reggae dance tune featuring Trey Songz. The song samples Sister Nancy’s reggae anthem, “Bam Bam.” Whether you’re relaxing on a beach or partying with friends on a rooftop, this island groove gets your body moving.

Kehlani ft. BJ The Chicago Kid – Down For You

I’ve always been a fan of R&B duets and these two joining forces are a match made in Heaven. A tale of two people in love but are scared because they think it may be too good to be true. If you want to show your bae that you’re a ride-or-die lover, play this song and thank me later.

Eric Bellinger – Overrated

If there were an artist known for sampling songs in a clever way, Eric Bellinger would be on my top 10 list. The R&B crooner recently released 3 new songs for his fans, but “Overrated” caught my attention quickly. Perhaps it was the sample of the theme song from the ‘90s hit sitcom Living Single. Eric believes the single life is overrated and is happy he has a girl at home. Whether you believe his relationship theory or not, this song could be a future radio favorite.

Action Bronson ft. Chance the Rapper – Baby Blue

Although the Mark Ronson-produced track has a jovial sound, Action’s lyrics showcase a melancholic mood, hence the color blue in the title. Action expresses how a girl broke his heart and he’s moving on to someone better. What better time to start something new than in the spring?

Kendrick Lamar – Alright

Every now and then we hear a song that speaks directly to our life situations, this track is my current theme song. Kendrick speaks on people looking to escape their pain and troubles. However, it doesn’t matter how much you’re hurting or how many times you’ve failed, Kendrick wants people to train their minds that everything will be alright in the end.

It’s that time of year when temperatures are warming up and we couldn’t be happier. So go ahead and grab your sunglasses, ride around in your car with the windows down and vibe out to these awesome tunes. Enjoy and let me know what you think!
