Yeezus Tour Review

Kanye West released his Yeezus album early in the summer with a different sound that fans were not so used to, but leave it to Kanye’s creativity to keep the people talking, and his Yeezus tour wasn’t any different. Kanye made a stop in San Jose at the SAP Center in late October. Opening up for Kanye was Compton rapper and newest rap king Kendrick Lamar.  Although Kendrick encountered a couple technical difficulties with his microphone, that didn’t stop him from exciting the crowd as he performed hits from his latest album, good kid, m.A.A.d. city. To show his appreciation for his Bay Area fans, the DJ started playing E-40’s “Function” song, but little did the crowd know that E-40 would come out on stage with Kendrick to perform the song. The crowd went wild as Kendrick and E-40 performed together. For any artist performing in a city and to show recognition and appreciation for local artists, can set the bar high for fans.

After Kendrick’s set, fans sat through a prolonged intermission as the arena crew set up the dramatic Yeezus stage to come. Once everything was set, the focal points of Kanye’s theatrical stage were a glacier mountaintop and lightshow. Kanye performed songs from his latest album, Yeezus, as well as Cruel Summer, 808s & Heartbreaks, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Late Registration, Graduation, and The College Dropout. A major showcase was Kanye bringing out a Jesus-like character to prelude him into performing his hit song “Jesus Walks.” He also can’t disappoint in the wardrobe department, his main accessory was wearing masks throughout most of the show, some with black diamonds, jewels and another in the form of disco ball that reflected out to the audience once the lightshow shun upon it. Kanye’s melody is leaving his fans with a theatrical show.
