2 Good To Be TRU Review

A sold out crowd of R&B lovers and hip-hop radio heads filled Oakland’s Fox Theater for the 2 Good To Be T.R.U. tour featuring 2 Chainz, Pusha T, and August Alsina. Opening the tour was R&B newcomer August Alsina. With Alsina being the only singer of the tour, he constantly gave the ladies something to scream about while he was on stage. He performed songs from his EP, Downtown: Life Under the Gun and also gave the audience a taste of his a capella skills. As if his sensual voice and sexy moves didn’t win over many hearts in the venue, Alsina jumped off the stage into the front pit to sing up close to a few lucky ladies and engage more with his fans. He ended his set by performing his smash hit, “I Luv This S**t,” giving the audience a mixture of R&B and hip-hop before bringing out the rapping headliners.

Since Alsina set the R&B tone of the show, it was time to bring out an artist with heavy-hitting beats and who never lets anyone forget his name, the rapper known as Pusha T. Although Pusha is well known as one-half of the hip-hop duo The Clipse, he performed most of his own solo and collaboration hits. He performed songs from his latest album, My Name is My Name including “King Push,” “Numbers on the Boards,” and “40 Acres.” Pusha also couldn’t let the audience forget that he rocks with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music roster. He took the audience on a spin of Kanye hits including “Runaway,” “So Appalled,” “Don’t Like,” and making sure everyone at the Fox can “shake that body, party that bod” with the “New God Flow” hit. Pusha couldn’t leave the Bay Area without taking his fans back in time by ending his set with The Clipse’s breakout hit, “Grindin’” when the world was first introduced to King Push.

It was now time to bring out the headliner who goes by many names between Tity Boi and Hair Weave Killer, but you can call him 2 Chainz. TRUE! Since his moniker also represents his fashion sense, you will never see him without the jewelry around his neck. The stage was changed up as 2 Chainz had vintage videos and silhouette skits reflected across screens and the DJ booth. He called these video visuals, “B.O.A.T.S. – Based On a True Story,” which showcased different events and situations that he’s encountered and witnessed. While the visuals reflected on the screens, 2 Chainz kept the crowd partying to his hits such as, “Spend It,” “Birthday Song,” “No Lie,” and “Feds Watching.” The rapper has a long resume of hit collaborations and naturally performed songs such as Juicy J’s “Bands a Make Her Dance” and brought back his tour mate Pusha T on stage to perform “Mercy.” 2 Chainz ended the show by performing his hit song, “I’m Different” and then had an assistant drape a cape over him, a similar move showcased by the late James Brown. 2 Chainz leaves his fan with the melody of his music being based on a true story.
